Rocksalt Cafe in Haddington is a comfortably warm spot that clearly suits those looking for a relaxed breakfast or lunch, especially locals out and about with dogs or anyone after a strong, quality coffee. Its location on High Street makes it a convenient pause during a stroll or errands through town.

The atmosphere leans into the cosy and welcoming side, with friendly staff who take time to make visitors feel at home. It's the kind of place where regulars feel known, and pets are given a proper welcome—something that sets it apart from more rushed or purely commercial cafes in town.

Visitors often come here in the morning for breakfast options that are straightforward but done well, like hearty breakfast rolls and full breakfasts where every element is cooked with care. The coffee, particularly lauded for its quality, seems to play a starring role; those after an oat milk cappuccino or simply a well-pulled espresso won’t be disappointed.

While seating is mostly indoors, the intimate space invites a slower pace, making it well suited for relaxed mornings or midday breaks rather than large groups or lengthy work sessions. Dog owners will find this especially accommodating, and the staff’s easy rapport with customers suggests a community-focused vibe rather than a purely transactional experience.

  • Best for: Breakfast or lunch with a calm, friendly cafe atmosphere
  • Who will enjoy it: Locals wanting quality coffee and straightforward meals; dog owners seeking a welcoming spot
  • Best time to visit: Morning or lunchtime, particularly after a local walk around Haddington

I visited today for lunch after walking my dog locally. I had been before and knew they were very dog friendly. I had a breakfast roll(double fried egg)and an oat milk cappuccino. The roll was excellent and the cappuccino was the best I’ve had in many years, and I’ve drank very many. Very friendly staff and it’s a really warm and cosy cafe. It’s my go to cafe whilst in Haddington. I thoroughly recommend you visit and enjoy. Well done to Rock Salt.

Had the full breakfast, and it is easily one of the best breakfast’s I’ve had in a very long time. Each aspect cooked really well, and good quality. Staff are lovely, and the coffee was good too.

Had a very tasty lunch of soup of the day and toasted panini over flowing with coronation chicken and mozzarella onion A very good latte for a super reasonable price. Will definitely be going again soon.

Popped in here for coffee and baklava before an exhibition at the museum, loved it. Delicious, homemade and warm and friendly service. In fact I want to come back and try and breakfasts which looked great at the other tables.
